Overcoming Scars

From a 16-year-old who had to learn to walk again to selling to one of the music industries biggest stars, we at Urban Baes invite you to meet Jesi Jury!

I have learned that the scars we have, whether they are physical or emotional, only make us stronger and are only a part of our story.”

Jesi Jury

At 16 years old, driving home from her induction ceremony to the National Honor Society (NHS), Jesi and her mom got hit by an oncoming truck.

Jesi sustained multiple injuries and had emergency surgery. She lost her spleen, lacerated her liver, broke her pelvis, punctured her lung, and had rod and screws inserted into her leg and ankle.

“I was moved from a bed to a wheelchair; then I had a walker, then a cane. I had to learn how to walk again,” Jesi said.

This sounds challenging to overcome for anyone, but to a 16-year-old girl whose life turned upside down in the blink of an eye, it seems unimaginable.

Jesi continued, “Something one of my surgeons said to me after my accident was to turn tragedy into triumph and let it live in and through you. There are many times that I wanted to give up, or would feel down, because I was a teenage girl with many scars on my body. But I have learned that the scars we have, whether they are physical or emotional, only make us stronger and are only a part of our story.”

Jesi’s story is an inspiration to us all. Not only did Jesi learn how to walk again, after her tragic accident, she went on to graduate from high school, then college, earning her BAE in Elementary Education from Arizona State University.

Even though Jesi became a teacher, she always knew she wanted to be involved in business. This led her and her friend to co-found Sassy Paci, a personalized novelty business for infants and toddlers. Jesi eventually bought out her friend and continued on her own.

One time, at a boutique, Britney Spears was a customer of Sassy Paci, purchasing items for her young sons, which led Sassy Paci to be featured in People Magazine.

Jesi has also always had a passion for health and wellness and helping, that it came naturally to share this with others.

Fueled4Freedom is a Facebook page Jesi runs that is connected to her health and wellness business.

“I love to help others look and feel their best,” Jesi said.

A final piece of advice from Jesi, no matter what path or passion you choose, “Always stay true to yourself, have fun, and remember that you are here to serve others to the best of your ability with the gifts that God has given you.”
